Types of Visa

Tourist Visa:

Visitor visas are nonimmigrant visas for persons who want to enter the United States temporarily for tourism (visa category B-2), or for a combination of both purposes (B-1/B-2).The B1/B2 Visa is valid for 10 years after issued, but for each entry, you are allowed to stay in the United States of America only for 180 days Per Entry or 6 months.

Business Visa:

B1 visas are available to individuals participating in business activities of a commercial or professional nature in the United States, including, but not limited to, consulting with business associates, traveling for a scientific, educational, professional or business convention, settling an estate, negotiating a contract, participating in short-term training, transitioning through the United States, or air crewman deadheading.

Student Visa:

An F1 visa is a nonimmigrant visa for those wishing to study in the U.S. if you are planning to entering the US to attend a university or college, high school, private elementary school, seminary, conservatory, language training program, or other academic institution required student Visa.

Study Stream:

You must be enrolled in a program or course of study that culminates in a degree, diploma, or certificate and your school must be authorized by the U.S. government to accept international students.

Apply as soon as you receive your letter of acceptance. You can apply for F-1 visa within 120 days of the commencement of your program.

  •    Valid original passport. It is recommended that your passport be valid for at least six months beyond your expected arrival date in USA.
  •    Confirmation of Printout of the DS160 US Visa application. This is known as the CEAC Barcode
  •    Proof of fee payment
  •    Original interview appointment letter

 

Supporting documents for US Visitor Visa (Tourist Visa)

  •     Interview officer will primarily want to check that you are a legitimate applicant who meets all the criteria for US visitor visa including a valid identity, no criminal background, and have a valid reason to request a visitor visa.
  •       You must show evidence that you have sufficient funds to support your trip to USA.
  •    You may want to show evidence that you have strong ties back to home country, which will indicate to the officer that you have a reason to come back to your home country after your US trip is completed.
  •       Any additional documents that can support the above can be useful to carry with you when you go for the visitor visa interview.
  •      Evidence that shows the purpose of the trip, intent to depart the United States after the trip, and arrangements made to cover the costs of the trip may be provided. It is impossible to specify the exact form the documentation to take since applicants’ circumstances vary greatly. Following is a list of suggested documents for a few circumstances.

  •        Your complete travel plan with dates (in other words, your itinerary).
  •      Proof of funds (bank statement, copy of passbook, any other proof of cash.)
  •       Tax ID, PAN ID, copy of last 03 year’s tax documents.
  •        Business card if you have one.

 

 

Supporting documents for visiting children, family, attending family event   etc.

  •       Letter of invitation from children or relatives who are inviting you.
  •        Evidence of event, invitation card, or any other evidence.

 

Other suggested documents for visitor visa:

If you are employed, get a letter of employment verification:

  •      If you are a government employee, you must get a NOC.
  •      If you are self-employed, you must get proof of business ownership and financials.

Note: The above list of documents is not mandatory, and depending on individual circumstance, some of these documents may not be applicable. Additionally, there may be documents or evidence you can present before the consulate officer that are not listed above. The above list is the most common documents requested by immigration officers during visa interview.

For parents or individual applicants whose trip is sponsored by their children, relatives, or friends who live in United States, they should get certain documents from the sponsors. See the next section for complete list of documents required from sponsor.

USA STUDENT VISA REQUIREMENTS (F1 Visa requirements)

 

F1 Visa Documents Requirements:

The following documents are required to apply for an F1 visa and must be brought to the visa interview.

  • Passport valid for travel to the US and valid for at least six months beyond period of intended stay in the US
  • Form DS-160, Nonimmigrant Visa Application, confirmation page
  • Payment receipt of F1 visa application fee (if required to pay before the interview)
  • Photo
  • SEVIS FEES payment receipt
  • Form I-20A-B, Certificate of Eligibility for Nonimmigrant (F1) Student Status For Academic and Language Students, or Form I-20M-N, Certificate of Eligibility for Nonimmigrant (M1) Student Status for Vocational Students.

The school will send the F1 applicant a SEVIS-generated Form I-20, which must be signed by the applicant and the school official.

Additional documentation may also be requested to establish that the applicant is qualified for an F1 student visa. F1 visa applicants may be required to provide evidence of the following.

Academic preparation, such as

Transcripts, diplomas, degrees or certificates from schools; and

Standardized test scores required by US school;

Intent to depart the US upon completion of the course of study; and

Documents supporting financial background, proving how the applicant will pay all educational, living, and travel costs incurred

 

Photo Requirements :

The US visa photo size should be:

  • 2 x 2 inches (51 x 51 mm)
  • In color
  • Taken within the last 6 months
  • With no shadows
  • With a plain white background
  • You must face the camera in the photo

Do you have any question?

What types of visas are available for people to come to the United States?
There are more than 20 nonimmigrant visa types for people traveling to the United States temporarily. There are many more types of immigrant visas for those coming to live permanently in the United States. The type of Visa you need is determined by the purpose of your intended travel.
My old passport has already expired. My visa to travel to the United States is still valid but in my expired passport. Do I need to apply for a new visa with my new passport?
If your visa is still valid you can travel to the United States with your two passports, as long as the visa is valid, not damaged, and is the appropriate type of visa required for your principal purpose of travel. (Example: tourist visa, when your principal purpose of travel is tourism). Both passports (the valid and the expired one with the visa) should be from the same country and type.When you arrive at the U.S. port-of-entry (POE, generally an airport or land border) the Customs and Border Protection Immigration Officer will check your visa in the old passport and if s/he decides to admit you into the United States they will stamp your new passport with an admission stamp along with the annotation "VIOPP" (visa in other passport). Do not try to remove the visa from your old passport and stick it into the new valid passport. If you do so, your visa will no longer be valid.
My visa will expire while I am n the United States. Is there a problem with that ?
No. If the Department of Homeland Security, Customs and Border Protection Immigration Officer at the port-of-entry admitted you into the United States for a specific period of time, s/he will note your authorized period of stay on your admission stamp or paper Form I-94, called an Arrival/Departure Record. You will be able to remain in the United States during your authorized period of stay, even if your visa expires during the time you are in the United States. Since your admission stamp or paper Form I-94 documents your authorized stay and is the official record of your permission to be in the United States, it is very important to keep inside your passport.
What are indefinite validity visas (Burroughs visas) and are they still valid ?
Indefinite validity visas (Burroughs Visas) are tourist/business visas manually stamped into a traveler’s passport which were valid for ten years. Effective April 1, 2004, all indefinite validity Burroughs visas became void. Therefore, if you have an indefinite validity visa you must apply for a new visa for travel to the U.S.
What is administrative processing ?
Some visa applications require further administrative processing, which takes additional time after the visa applicant's interview by a consular officer. Applicants are advised of this requirement when they apply.
My visa application has been refused. Why can't I get money back?
The fee that you paid is an application fee. Everyone who applies for a U.S. visa anywhere in the world must pay this fee, which covers the cost of processing your application. This fee is non-refundable regardless of whether you are issued a visa or not, since your application was processed to conclusion. As one example, if your application was refused under Section 214(b) and you choose to reapply for a visa,whether applying at the same embassy or elsewhere, you will be required to pay the visa application processing fee.
I have a non-immigrant visa that will expire soon and I would like to renew it. Do I need go through the whole visa application process again?
Yes, you will have to go through the whole visa application process each time you want to apply for a visa, even if your visa is still valid. There are some situations where a visa applicant may not need to be interviewed when renewing his/her visa. See the U.S. Embassy or Consulate website for more information.
After I have my visa , I will be able to enter the U.S..Correct ?
A visa does not guarantee entry into the United States. A visa allows a foreign citizen to travel to the U.S. port-of-entry, and the Department of Homeland Security U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) immigration inspector authorizes or denies admission to the United States.
How can I find out how long I am authorized to stay in the United States ?
A visa does not guarantee entry into the United States, but allows a foreign citizen coming from abroad, to travel to the United States port-of entry (generally an airport or land border) and request permission to enter the United States. The Department of Homeland Security, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officials have authority to permit or deny admission to the United States, and determine how long a traveler may stay. At the port of entry, upon granting entry to the United States, the Department of Homeland Security, U.S. immigration inspector, provides you an admission stamp or paper Form I-94, Arrival/Departure Record in your passport. On this admission stamp or paper Form I-94, the U.S. immigration inspector records either a date or "D/S" (duration of status). If your admission stamp or paper Form I-94 contains a specific date, then that is the date by which you must leave the United States. Your admission stamp or paper Form I-94 is very important to keep in your passport, since it shows your permission to be in the United States.
My visa was damaged. What should I do?
If your visa has been damaged in any way, you will need to reapply for a new visa at a U.S. Embassy or Consulate abroad.
How long MRV fee be valid ?
If your fee was paid before October 1, 2022 it will be valid until September 30, 2023.If your fee was paid on or after October 1, 2022, it will be valid for 365 days. Applicants must schedule an in-person or interview waiver appointment during this 365-day period.  Please note applicants are only required to schedule their in-person or interview waiver appointment within the 365-day period. There is no requirement the interview or VAC appointment must occur during the 365-day period.
Can I convert my in-person appointment to an interview waiver (dropbox) appointment?
We advise applicants who are eligible for the expanded interview waiver program not to cancel any existing in-person appointments unless/until earlier interview waiver (dropbox) appointment dates become available. Applicants should continue to monitor our website for appointment availability. Once interview waiver (dropbox) appointments become available, applicants with existing in-person appointments will need to cancel their in-person appointments before they will be able to book interview waiver appointments. We cannot guarantee that applicants with existing in-person appointments will be able to obtain interview waiver (dropbox) appointments, once available.
I have a valid visa and fully vaccinated. Can I now travel to the United States ?
Yes, You may travel to the United States without any further visa processing. Please note that you will be required to provide proof of full vaccination. Refer to the CDC website for a listing of accepted Cove -19 vaccines. Starting June 12, 2022 you are not required to show proof of a negative COVID-19 test prior to boarding a U.S bound flight.
My case was refused 221G under presidential Proclamation 10199.What should I do now that the Proclamation is no longer in effect?

I changed my name .Is my U.S visa with my old name still valid?
if your name has legally changed through marriage, divorce or a court ordered name change, you will need to obtain a new passport. Once you have a new passport the department of State recommends that you apply for a new U.S Visa to make it easier for you to travel to and from the United states.
