Types of Visas

 Tourist Visa:

The tourist visa allows visitors to stay up a maximum of 30 days in Russian Federation.
A tourist visa is issued to those individuals who wish to enter Russia for the sole purpose of tourism and sightseeing.
Visitors are not allowed to engage in any form of employment.

 Business Visa:

Indians who wish to explore business opportunities and investment options in Russia can consider the application for the business visa.
Business visas to the Russian Federation may be issued with up to two entries and for up to 90 days.

Private Visa:

In specific situations, an applicant can apply for the private visa to meet a Russian friend.
However, getting a tourist visa is comparatively easy which also allows the visitors to meet their Russian associate.
The visa allows visitors to stay up to a maximum of 90 days.

 

People who can apply for a Visa to Russia

Tourist

Indian national who wish to travel Russia for Tourism, Sightseeing and Recreation purpose they are eligible for Tourist Visa. Tourist Visa is required in case you enter Russian Federation for tourism purposes. Tourist visa can be valid for up to 30 days and can be issued for single entry.

 Businessmen

Business Visa is for individuals who want to attend business negotiations, discussions, conferences, seminars, etc. During the visit, they may engage in business activities that do not constitute work or employment.

Private Purpose

Private Visa is a document that allows a foreign citizen to enter Russia and stay on its territory with the purpose of visiting relatives. In order to apply for this type of visa, it is necessary that an Individual should arrange an Invitation.

Right Time to Apply for Visa to Russia

Tourist stream:

One can apply for the Visa up to 90 days prior to his/her travel date.
However, it is recommended that you apply at least 3 weeks prior to your travel date.

 

Business Stream:

A Russian Business Visa permits its holder to enter into the Russian Federation and engage in activities related to business.
The Russian Business Visa may be valid for 90 days and for single, double, or multiple entries. A multiple-entry visa can be valid for up to 1 year.

 

 Private stream:

Russian private visa permits travelers to enter Russia for personal reasons, as for visiting family members or friends.
An Invitation for Private visa is issued (on a stamped form) by the local department of the Migration police upon the request of an individual (Russian citizen or a foreigner-holder of a Russian permanent residence permit).
The Private Visa Invitation processing time can take up to 3 months.

Document Requirements for RUSSIA VISA

Tourist Visa (Single or Double Entry)

1. Original passport containing at least 2 blank pages for visas, valid for a period of 6 months after the visa expires (+ a good quality copy of the page with photo and address page – both on one side of an A4 sheet).

2. Online application form,printed and signed in person by the applicant. Important: while completing the application form please select correct location for submission (the visa center you will be applying at). Please note: applicant’s signature on the application form should match the signature in the passport.

3. One colour photograph 3.5 x 4.5 cm with light-colored background, clear image of the applicant directly facing the camera, without dark/ tinted glasses or any headgear (with the exception of persons who wear such headgear due to their ethnic/ religious background, and are seen wearing the same in their passport photo).

4. Tourist confirmation letter (a copy can be submitted) issued by a Russian tour operator (registered in the Unified Federal Register of Tour Operators under a unique reference number). It should contain all the passport details of the tourist (full name, date of birth, sex, citizenship and passport number), duration of stay (date of entry and exit), number of entries granted by the visa, full contact details of the Russian tour operator, its reference number (“MBT”), list of the cities to be visited, accommodation details, signature of the head of the tour agency, the organization’s official seal.

5. Ticket Itinerary.
If travel is more than 14 day’s then day to day itinerary is required.
*Double-entry tourist visas are issued for trips including exit to Russia’s bordering countries only. Additional documents may be required: an air ticket and a visa, or any other document allowing entry to the country of the second destination (original+copy).
Additional documents may be required for multiple-entry tourist visas.

 

B. Russian Business Visa Requirements

1. Invitation for entry to the Russian Federation issued by the Federal Migration Service of the Russian Federation (original*); or the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation (original*), or
Visa directive sent by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation;

2. HIV test report including passport details, stamp and signature of the issuing medical authority, showing negative HIV test results and issued not earlier than 3 months before the application date (original);
Important: while applying for transfer of work visa please submit a recent HIV test report (original).

3. Original passport containing at least 2 blank pages for visas, valid for a period of 18 months from the date of visa issuance (+ a good quality scanned copy of the page with photo and address page – both on one side of an A4 sheet).

4. Online application form,printed and signed in person by the applicant. Important: while completing the application form please select correct location for submission (the visa center you will be applying at).
Please note: applicant’s signature on the application form should match the signature in the passport.

5. Two colour photograph 3.5 x 4.5 cm with light-colored background, clear image of the applicant directly facing the camera, without dark/ tinted glasses or any headgear (with the exception of persons who wear such headgear due to their ethnic/ religious background, and are seen wearing the same in their passport photo).

6. Ticket Itinerary.
In case of electronic invitation a copy can be submitted.
Please note: the Consular Office reserves the right to request additional documents for processing the visa, invite the applicant for an interview or extend visa processing time.

 

C. Documents Requirements For Private Visa

1. Original passport containing at least 2 blank pages for visas, valid for a period of 18 months from the date of visa issuance (+ a good quality scanned copy of the page with photo and address page – both on one side of an A4 sheet).

2. Online application form,printed and signed in person by the applicant. 4. Visa entitlement certificate (IZVESHENIYE) from the local OVIR in Russia. You must obtain this certificate for you and send the original certificate to you. Your host will need to know.

How early can I apply for visa processing?
There is no “earliest date” for submission of Russian visa applications. Consular missions recommend that you apply at least 3-4 weeks prior to your date of travel to accommodate any unforeseen processing delays.
Are fees refundable in case of rejection, extended processing, or passport withdrawal?
All fees (consular and service) are non-refundable and cannot be refunded. Consular missions may extend processing time for passports submitted under urgent fee, and no refund partial or full, shall be given to applicants in such cases.
Can I pay part of my fees in cash and part by card?
No. Payment modes for one invoice cannot be combined for accounting reasons.
How long does my passport have to be valid in order to apply for Russian visa?
For tourist, business, humanitarian, transit visa applications your passport must be valid for 6 months from end date of validity of your visa(from the "date of exit" mentioned in your Invitation). For students and work visa applications, your passport must be valid for 1.5 years from the start date of validity of your visa (From the "date of entry" mentioned in your invitation.
My passport has expired, but the Russian visa in it is still valid. Can I travel to Russia with both passports together (old and new), without visa renewal?
No. Travel to Russia with valid visa in the old passport is not permitted. You must apply for visa transfer. Your visa will be transferred to the new passport and the visa sticker in the old passport shall be cancelled.
I don’t have a surname in my passport. How do I fill application form?
Applicants whose surname is missing in their passport, need to enter sign of dash “ - “ in the respective field.
What is tourist confirmation and why is it required?
Tourist confirmation is a legal invitation to Russia for tourism purpose, and it is a mandatory document for all tourists traveling to Russia.
When is HIV certificate required?
All work and study visa applications (including visa transfer) require a valid blood test result confirming applicant’s HIV-negative status.
Can I reapply with same invitation after rejection?
Ans: Applicants must obtain a new invitation in case of re-submitting their documents for new visa application.
