Types Of Visas in Portugal

 

Tourist Visa:

If you are planning to travel to Portugal for holidays, tourism, entertainment, sightseeing or similar, you should apply for a Portugal Tourist Visa for short stays. The visa permits you to remain in Portugal for up to 90 days.

 

Business Visa:

A Portuguese Schengen Business visa is for travelers who need to enter the territory of Portugal for the sole purpose of engaging in business activities, i.e. meetings, contract signing, etc.

 

Visitor Visa:

If you have a family member or a friend residing in Portugal, who has invited you to visit them for a period shorter than 90 days, you qualify to apply for a Portuguese Visitor Visa.

 

People who can Apply for a Visa in Portugal

 

Tourists:

People, who wish to travel to Portugal for the purpose of Tourism, Entertainment, Sightseeing, or similar, can apply Portugal Tourist Visa.

This visa given for a travel period of less than 90 days and can be applied before 180 days from the intended date of travel.

 

Businessmen:

People who wish to visit Portugal for Business purpose will need to apply for a business visa.

With this visa a businessman can visit the country for corporate meetings, Employment or partnership meetings, seminar, you will have to apply for a short stay visa which allows you to stay in Portugal for a period less than 90 days.

 

Visitors:

If you have a family member or a friend residing in Portugal, who has invited you to visit them for a period shorter than 90 days, you qualify to apply for a Portuguese Visitor Visa.

 

Right Time to Apply for a Visa in Portugal

 

Tourist Stream:

People who wish to travel Portugal for Holiday, Recreation or Private purpose can apply six months in advance of a trip for Portugal Tourist Visa

 

Business Stream:

For visa applicants attending business meeting or conference in Portugal, the local contact must be from a Portugal registered business entity and also requires a Business Invitation from Sponsor.

 

Visitor Stream:

Once you have received an Invitation from any immediate family members or friends in Portugal, you are eligible to apply six months in advance of a trip for a visitor visa.

Portugal Tourist Visa Requirements

  1.  Application form completely filled and signed by the applicant.
  2. Two Recent (not older than six months) passport-size photographs in colour with white background. (3.5cm / 4.5cm) (Do not Staple).
  3.  The Passport should be valid for at least three months (any other type of travel document should be valid for at least six months), beyond the intended duration of stay in the Schengen territory and with at least two blank pages to affix the visa.

No visa will be issued on the additional page of the passport. Previous passport, if any, should also be submitted with the visa application.

  1.  Clear photocopy of first and last page of the passport on a same page and Copy of previous Schengen visa and U.K or U.S valid visa, if any
  2.  A Copy of refusal notification of previously denied Schengen Visas, if any
  3. Covering letter explaining the purpose of visit, Names and passport numbers of the applicants travelling together with complete and full address and contacts of host/relative/hotel in Portugal.
  1. Travel ticket reservations
  2. Proof of accommodation (reservation of hotel/apartment)
  3. Overseas travel medical insurance valid for all Schengen-countries .The insurance has to cover the applicant for at least 30,000 Euros or equivalent, for all risks e.g. accident, illness, medical emergency evacuation etc.

The policy has to clearly specify the period of validity and has to cover the entire duration of the trip including the date of arrival &departure.

  1. Proof of sufficient funds to cover all expenses while in Portugal.
  • Original Bank statement for the last three (03) months duly stamped and signed by the issuing bank branch
  • Copy Income Tax Returns for the last 3 years self/company
  • Copy of last three (03) Salary Slips (if employed).
  • Copy of Pan Card

What is an Portugal Visa?

Do I have to submit the application personally or can I courier it to the Portugal Visa Application Centre?
You can send a friend or anyone you trust or even a travel agent with an authorization letter by you to submit your application, but only if you have already provided bio-metrics after 2 November 2015 for Schengen in India. Otherwise you will have visit personally to provide your biometrics data.
Which visa type should I apply for?

Is it necessary to get travel insurance?
Travel Insurance is mandatory to submit the application.
Can I extend a Portugal Visa?
Yes, You cantechnically extend a Portugal Visa but not for just any reason. Your application to extended the visa will only be accepted if you have a legitimate reason, such as an illness or natural disaster .To apply for a Portugal Schengen Visa extension, You will have to contact the Portuguese Immigration Services (SEF). Remember, if you are in Portugal on a Student or Work Visa. You will have to apply for renewal of your Residence Permit, not a visa extension.
