Types of Visa in Italy

 

Tourist Visa:

A Schengen short stay visa entitles the holder to visit the Schengen countries for Tourism, visiting friends / family or other non-business related purposes up to 90 days within a 180 day period from date of first entry.

The stay may be either continuous or several visits depending upon whether the visa is single or multiple entry.

 

Business Visa:

Business people can make a short business visit to Schengen during your visa validity period.

Business activities may include a conference, negotiation or exploratory business visit up to 90 days within a 180 day period from date of first entry.

Employment Visa:

This visa allow the applicants to enter Italy for a short term period (type “C”) or for a long term period (type “D”) with the purpose to work while earning a salary.

The Right Time to Apply for a Visa in Italy:

 

Tourist Stream:

People can apply for tourist Visa to explore Italy

You must apply for your visa no more than six months, and no fewer than 15 days

 

Business Stream:

People who wish to travel Italy to attend a business meeting or conference should receive the Invitation letter from Italian counterpart for a Business Visa

Employment Stream :

This Visas are subject to an Authorization (“NULLA OSTA”) issued by the competent Italian Authority (“SPORTELLO UNICO PER L’IMMIGRAZIONE”) which is valid within 6 months from the date of issuing.

DOCUMENT REQUIREMENTS:

 

TOURIST VISA REQUIREMENTS:

1.Visa application form fully completed and signed by the applicant

2. Recent Photograph, 4.5 cm x 3.5 cm, 70 to 80% face, white background, Contrast color cloth

3. Valid Passport.A validity of 3 months after intended stay and Old passport if any

4. Covering letter for the purpose of visit on Letterhead

5. Overseas medical insurance with minimum coverage of Euro 30,000 – for emergency hospital and repatriation expenses.     (Photocopy)

6. Travel itinerary with travel dates, including a return flight reservation or ticket (Please mention if any other country/countries are to be covered during the entire Trip)

7. Two set photocopies of Applicant’s Passport

8. Proof of social or professional status:

  1. Evidence of working/business activity or evidence of source of income
  2. Leave authorization from the employer
  3. Salary slips

9. Availability of adequate financial means of the applicant:

  1.  Salary slips/certificates of the last three months and Form F16
  2.  Status of personal bank account for the last six months, in original letter from the bank , if not then the online print of bank statement should be stamped signed from the branch manager.

 

Alternatively:

a. Original and one photocopy of Bank Guarantee ( “fidejussione bancaria”) from sponsor in Italy (if any) covering the  expenses for the duration of stay as per the foreign exchange value (see above mentioned table) accompanied by  personal bank statements.

b. The original will be returned with the passport.

 

 Additional Suggested Documents if available

  • Income tax challans (last 3 years) and Form 16
  • Foreign exchange endorsement on the passport and receipt
  • Credit card copy with statement of credit limit

10. Proof of Accommodation:

  •  Confirmed hotel bookings

                    OR

  • Invitation letter from the sponsor in Italy (“Lettera di invito”, see  attached form)

Please Note: The letter of invitation must be accompanied by photocopy of the pages of his/her picture id containing relevant data, signature and validity of the document.

11. FOR MINORS:

  •  Application to be signed by both parents
  •  If traveling with one of the parents, a NO Objection Affidavit from other parent must be provided and accompanied by ID copy of the same.

 

NOTE: This Embassy reserves the right to ask for a Personal Interview or Additional Documents.

 

BUSINESS VISA REQUIREMENTS:

1. Visa application form fully completed and Sign by the applicant

2. Recent Photographs, 4.5 cm x 3.5 cm, 70 to 80% face, white background, Contrast color cloth

4. One set photocopy of applicant’s Passport and all previous Schengen, UK & US Visas. And a covering letter from the applicant

  1. Travel itinerary with travel dates, including return flight reservation or bookings. (Please mention if any other country/countries are to be covered during the entire trip)
  2.  Proof of accommodation (Hotel booking if not included in the invitation letter)

7.  Documentation proving the economic status of the sending Company:

  1.  Registration Certificates of Company or Proof of Board Membership   for liberal professionals or Letter from Medical   Institutions in case of  doctors
  2.  Bank statement of the last six months in original and a copy duly stamped and signed by authorized person, whose name, charge and contact details (email and contact number) must be clearly mentioned
  3.  IEC number (if applicable)

8. Letter from Indian Company or Institution, explaining purpose of the visit, professional status of applicant, and details regarding activities and business relation with Italian company.

9.  Proof of adequate financial means of the applicant:

  1.  Salary slips/certificates of the last three months and ITR 5 with bar code
  2.  Status of personal bank account for the last three months

  2. Foreign exchange endorsement on the passport and receipt

10. Letter of invitation from Italian company, in Italian (Lettera di invito per AFFARI), signed by the authorized person,  along with photocopy of the pages of his/her picture id (passaporto o carta d’identita) containing relevant data, signature and validity of the document.

11. Chamber Of Commerce from the Italian Company

12. Self-employed people and businessmen must submit proof of business i.e. firm’s registration or partnership deed, proprietorship letter (profession certificate).

Either of these documents in original and a copy of the same has to be attached in the application.

 

NOTE:This Consulate General reserves the right to ask for a Personal Interview or Additional Documents.

 

EMPLOYMENT VISA REQUIREMENTS

1. Application form fully completed and signed by applicant

2. Original Passport, With the validity at least 15 months longer than the validity of the visa applied for and containing at least two blank pages(One facing each other) for affixing the visa

3. Passport photocopy

4. One-way ticket

5. “NULLA OSTA” issued by the competent Italian Authority (“SPORTELLO UNICO PER L’IMMIGRAZIONE”) which is valid within 6 months from the date of issuing

  1. Photocopy of “Autorizzazione al lavoro subordinato” (Authorization for dependent work) issued by competent “Ufficio Provinciale del Lavoro” (Labour Provincial Directorate) whose date is not prior to six months, duly authorized by competent“Questura” (Police Headquarters)
  2. Original and photocopy of “Autorizzazione al lavoro” issued by competent “Ufficio Provinciale del Lavoro –Segreteria Collocamento  Spettacolo, Via Fornovo 8, 00193 ROMA (Labour Provincial Directorate –Division for the Show Business) or by the “Ufficio   Speciale Collocamento dello Spettacolo” at Palermo (Special Labour Office)

7. In this case, however, an “undertaking letter” by the employer is mandatory, Assuring that the applicants will return to India after the completion of their Work contract

8. If the work for which the authorization has been granted requires special skills. Proof of skills is to be documented

9. Photocopy of the “Permesso di soggiorno” (Permit of stay)

10. Overseas medical insurance with minimum coverage of Euro 30,000, for emergency hospital and repatriation expenses (minimum 3 months)

11. Invitation letter/contract letter and Photo ID of the Inviting person

12.  Updated Bank Statement for the last 6 months (With bank seal and stamp)

 

PLEASE NOTE: The Embassy/Consulate reserves the right to verify the documentation submitted.

In this case, the maximum period of 30 days fixed by the Italian law for the evaluation of this type of visa will be  suspended till verification is completed.

 

Jurisdiction for Passport Submission:

 

  1. Applications from the residents of the States of Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Orissa, Tripura, Sikkim and West Bengal, the Union Territory of the Andaman & Nicobar Islands and Nepal are to be decided by the Consulate of Italy in Kolkata
  2. Applications from the residents of New Delhi, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, Punjab, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Chandigarh are to be decided by the Embassy of Italy in New Delhi.
  3. Applications from the residents of Andhra Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Goa, Gujarat, Karnataka, Kerala, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Daman and Diu, Dadra, Nagar Haveli, Lakshadweep, Pondicherry are to be decided by the Consulate of Italy in Mumbai.

Who Can Apply for a Schengen Visa in India?
Indian nationals and nationals of other countries legally residing in India can apply. People who do not reside in India may only apply if they are legally present in India and can present a justification for lodging an application in India rather than in their country of residence.
How much are Visa fees? Arethe Visa fees refundable?
Short-term visa fees for Indian national are80 Euro while for children between 6 and 12, it is40 Euro. Visa fees Non refundable.
Can I work part-time while visiting Italy?
No. You cannot work on your Schengen travel visa (Visa C).
How Long Before the Start of the intended visit should I apply?
It is advisable to lodge the application as early as possible and at least 15 calendar days before the intended visit. Please note that applications can be lodged no more than six months before the start of the intended visit (nine months for seafarers).
