Types of Visas in Iceland:

 

Tourist Visa:

An Iceland Tourist Visa is a permit to enter Iceland under tourism purposes as sightseeing or vacations, for up to 90 days within a six-month period.

It is part of the Schengen area, and it allows the visa holder to travel not only to Iceland, but also through the whole Schengen territory.

 

Business Visa:

An Iceland Business Visa is a short-stay permit that allows a person to enter Iceland and engage in business-related activities. It is a type of Schengen Visa for Iceland.

It permits its holder to remain in Iceland, and the rest of the Schengen countries for a maximum of 90 days, within a six-month period.

 

Family Visit Visa:

An Iceland Visitor Visa is a permit to enter the country, for people who want to visit family members or friends residing in Iceland.

It comes in the form of a visa sticker affixed in a traveler’s passport.

It permits its holder to remain in Iceland, and the rest of the Schengen countries for a maximum of 90 days, within a six-month period.

 

People who can Apply for a Visa in Iceland

 

Tourist Stream:

A Tourist Schengen Visa permits third-country nationals to enter the Schengen Area for a maximum of 90 days within a 6-month period, under the purpose of travelling or visiting Europe for pleasure.

 

Business Stream:

Business Visa is for individuals attending business negotiations, discussions, conferences, seminars, etc. During the visit, they may engage in business activities that do not constitute work or employment.

 

Family Visit:

If a person is visiting Iceland on the invitation of a family member or friend, he or she has to apply for a family/friend visit visa.

Tourist Stream:

People who wish to travel Iceland for Holliday, Recreation or Private visit purpose can apply for an Iceland tourist Visa.

English translations must accompany the documents not originally in English. The application supporting documents should be handed in on A4 papers:

 

   Travel document:

Your passport or travel document must be valid for minimum three months after the intended departure from the Schengen  area:

  • It shall contain at least two blank pages
  • It shall have been issued within the past 10 years
  • It should not have any observation regarding the front data page

 

        Application form:

  • Fully completed application form and signed by the applicant

        Photograph:

        Travel itinerary:

         Covering letter:

A covering letter from the applicant introducing himself/herself, explaining the purpose, duration &itinerary of the visit in brief

          Travel Medical Insurance:

  • You must hold a travel insurance policy to cover possible expenses in connection with a return for all risks e.g. accident, illness, medical emergency evacuation etc. during your stay
  • The insurance policy must cover all the Schengen countries, and the minimum policy coverage is Euro 30,000 or US Dollar 50,000
  • The insurance policy must be valid for the entire duration of the intended stay
  • The validity of the visa may be shortened if the insurance policy does not cover the entire duration of the stay
  • You must ensure always to have a valid Schengen travel insurance during your stays in the Schengen area

 

          Proof of means of Transport:

  • Flight reservation of return or round ticket
  • If the applicant is travelling to several Schengen States, proof of intra-Schengen flight reservation, train itinerary or car rental.
  • Please note that the tickets do not have to be paid, only the flight booking needs to be submitted

 

           Proof of Lodging:

  • Hotel reservations, rental of holiday home or campus residence reservation
  • If the applicant intends to stay with a family member or a friend, proof of sponsorship and/or private accommodation is required from the host
  • Individual Schengen States may require applicant to present proof of sponsorship and/or private accommodation by completing a form drawn up by the Schengen State’s competent authority (hereinafter ‘national form’)
  • If applicant is travelling to several Schengen States, proof of lodging in each of them should be submitted

 

           Proof of Financial means:

  • Original bank statement showing movements in the last three months, duly stamped and signed by the bank.
  • The account should be in the name of the applicant or the sponsor of the trip.
  • In case of a sponsor, the bank statement should be accompanied by a signed sponsorship letter and a signed copy of the sponsor’s passport.

 

Indian income tax return acknowledgment for the last two assessment years:

  • Pay slips for the last three months
  • Employment contract
  • Employers statement on approval for holidays

 

If the applicant is a company owner or self-employed:

  • Certificate of registration of the company

 

If the applicant is retired:

  • Pension statements for the last months
  • Proof of regular income generated by ownership of property or business

 

           Minor Applicant:

  • If the minor is travelling with only one parent, written consent of the other parent or guardian, and a signed copy of their passport or other photo ID is required.
  • In case a person has sole custody or guardianship of the minor, proof of this should be submitted.
  • if the minor travels alone (without parents), written consent from both parents or legal guardians of the minor; as well as signed copies of the passports or other photo ID of the parents or legal guardians.
  • All minors must be accompanied by both parents or legal guardians and sign the application form in front of a VFS officer. Except in cases where, the child is traveling with one parent to visit the other parent, who is residing in Iceland.

 

          Passport Copy:

  • All applications must contain a full color photocopy of the valid passport – all pages of the passport are required.
  • If there are any valid visas for Schengen or USA/UK/Canada/Australia (issued in last three years) in the old/cancelled passport then a color photocopy of the visa pages and passport data pages are required.

 

          General Information:

  • Copy of Highest Educational Certificate of the applicant.
  • Explanatory letter in case applicant has not travelled on his/her previous Schengen visa.
  • All documents should be provided in A4 size.

          Travel Itinerary:

Itinerary covering the whole trip in Iceland and all Schengen Member States, stating the planned dates and places of stay. Evidence of accommodation (hotel reservations) for the whole trip in the Schengen area, including the names of hotels and their telephone and fax numbers as well as duration of stay in different hotels

 

           Covering letter:

  • A Covering letter from the Indian organization or company containing following details:
  • Name and designation of the applicant and also of the signatory (of managerial or executive level) with signature

An outline of the applicant’s itinerary, purpose of visit, names and addresses of the companies he/she intends to visit,  period & place of intended stay.

         Invitation letter:

A signed invitation letter from the Icelandic company containing Name of the invited applicant, Purpose of visit, Dates of  the intended stay, Nature of costs being covered (boarding & lodging).

         Travel Medical Insurance:

Overseas travel medical insurance valid for all Schengen-countries. The insurance has to cover the applicant for at least  30,000 Euros or equivalent, for all risks e.g. accident, illness, medical emergency evacuation etc. The policy has to clearly  specify the period of validity and has to cover the entire duration of the trip including the date of arrival & departure.

         Proof of means of Transport:

Flight reservations of return or round ticket

If applicant is traveling to several Schengen states proof of intra-Schengen Flight reservation, Train Itinerary or Car rental

          Proof of Lodging:

Proof of accommodation: Hotel bookings or accommodation guarantees, covering the whole duration of the intended stay.

          Proof of Financial means:

Evidence of source of Financial support such as:

  • Original bank statement showing movements in the last three months, duly stamped and signed by the bank.
  • In case applicant is employed pay slips for the last three months, employment contact, employers statement on approval for holidays

In case applicant is the proprietor/owner of the company, company’s bank statement, proof of paid income tax, company   memo, partnership deed, establishment license or proprietorship etc. are required.

In case of first visit, in addition to the business correspondence with the concerned Icelandic company, copy of relevant  and Highest Educational Certificate is also required.

         Reason letter:

Reason letter in case the traveler has not travelled on the Previous Schengen Visa.

         Passport Copy:

         Minor Applicant:

  • If the minor is travelling with only one parent, written consent of the other parent or guardian, and a signed copy of their passport or other photo ID. In case a person has sole custody or guardianship of the minor, proof of this should be submitted.
  • If the minor travels alone (without parents), written; consent, from both parents or legal guardians of the minor; as well as signed copies of the passports or other photo ID of the parents or legal guardians.

What should I do if my Iceland Visa refused?
If your visa is refused, you have the right to appeal to the authorities in the Schengen member state where you applied.
Will receive a Refund if my Iceland Visa refused?
No. The fee you pay for your visa covers the cost of processing - so it will not be refunded if your application is turned down.
Will my Iceland visa allow me to travel to countries in the European Union, even though it is outside of the EU?
Yes. Iceland is in the Schengen Area - even though it is not in the EU. This means you can travel to other states that fall within the Schengen Area after visiting Iceland.
How can I extend my Iceland Visa?
The extension depends on the category of the permit. If you hold a short-term category, Schengen visa you will not be able to extend it under normal circumstances.
