Types of Visa

Tourist Visa:

If you are planning to travel to Austria for a short stay (up to 90 days).you will need a Schengen Short Stay Visa also known as a C-type visa.

Business Visa:

Visitor Visa/Family Visit:

Visitor visa is provided for those who are visiting family / friends in Austria. The inviter has to provide a guarantee on behalf of the applicant for this visa.

Student Visa/Research Visa/Internship Visa:

This Visa is granted for those who want to do an internship in Austria. Those who intend to work longer than six months should apply for a residency-permit, and not for a visa.

Work Visa:

Austria Tourist visa requirements

  1. Passport: (a) its validity shall extend at least three months after the intended date of departure from the territory of the Member States or, in the case of several visits, after the last intended date of departure from the territory of the Member States; (b) it shall contain at least two blank pages; (c) it shall have been issued within the previous 10 years; (d) NO alteration or handwritten amendment concerning the data page.

  3. Two Photographs (35 mm x 45 mm,70 to 80% face , white background,contrast color cloth.
  4. Covering letter for purpose of trip with detailed Itinerary, Location and Duration of Stay in Austria.
  5. Round-trip flight reservations – travel itinerary: Airline reservation and proof of other means of travel within Austria/EU in case of onward travel .
  6. Proof of accommodation: Hotel reservation / letter of tour organizer and / or other appropriate documentation indicating the envisaged travel plans within Austria /EU.
  7. Travel Insurance: Travel medical insurance shall be valid throughout the territory of the Member States and cover the entire period of the person’s intended stay or transit. The minimum coverage shall be EUR 30 000.

Important Notes:

  • If applicant intends to stay longer than 6 (six) months, Residence Permit (“Aufenthaltstitel”) has to be applied for. Visa “C” can be applied for with validity for up to 90 days, Visa “D” between 91 and 180 days. Visa in both categories cannot be extended or renewed in Austria.
  • Applications cannot be submitted 6 months prior to departure.
  • Processing can take up to 15 working days after receiving the application. Status queries will be responded after the above time frame only.
  • Kindly note that, in case an application is received by the Embassy, less than 15 working days before the intended travel date, the application along with the passport will be returned to VFS. Therefore, the applicants are advised to apply atleast 1 month prior to the intended travel.
  • However, in individual cases, that period may be extended up to 30 calendar days in, particularly when further scrutiny of the application is needed. In case the authorities of the Member State are consulted or additional documentation is needed, this period may be extended up to a maximum of 60 calendar days.

 

Austria Business visa requirements

 

  1.   • Permission by the Austrian Labor Market Authority “AMS”(Entsendebewilligung, Anzeigebestätigung) to be obtained by the inviting Austrian company.
  1. If applicable – Electronic letter of guarantee – “EVE” or “GVE” – Elektronische Verpflichtungserklärung” or Generalverpflichtungserklärung.
  • (to be obtained from the Austrian business with the competent „Fremdenpolizeibehörde“ at the appropriate regional office in Austria (if applicable) or in case of GVE at the Austrian Ministry of Interior.

  5. Electronic letter of guarantee of sponsor – “EVE – ElektronischeVerpflichtungserklärung”.obtained by the sponsor at the competent “Fremdenpolizeibehörde“ of the sponsor’s district in Austria (if applicable).
  6. Proof of accommodation in Austria or letter of acceptance at the school’s / college’s / university’s dormitory.
  7. Round-trip flight bookings – travel itinerary: airline reservation and proof of other means of travel within Austria/EU.

My passport has run out of blank visa pages but I still have empty pages for endorsements etc. Can I apply for a visa?
No. You need at least 2 blank back to back visa-pages in your passport when applying for a visa. The visa sticker can’t be placed on pages not specifically reserved for visas.
